Our Story
On a dark and stormy night... A couple of independent authors in Southern Oregon met an elderly couple who owned a permanently closed bookstore. J.P. Biddlecome and Rebecca J. Bastian showed a genuine interest in the small bookstore, and the owners were no longer able to keep it running. So, in 2024 the two authors got to work building an online bookstore, hoping that one day they could offer the elderly couple a platform to rehome the forgotten literature.
So why the name Bitterbrush? J.P. Biddlecome can be blamed for that. He hoped that one day he and Rebecca J. Bastian could build a physical location, or purchase the bookstore from the elderly couple. So he brainstormed for a name that fit the local area. He tried Aspen Books, Pinedrop Books, Pumice Books, but none of those sounded right to him. He even thought of naming it after the closest town, but Chiloquin Bookstore didn't present it's own identity. After ten minutes, and half a mug of tea, he thought about the shrubbery outside, which happened to be Bitterbrush, and settled on that.
And so the journey begins!
